Josefina Martin

Josefina Martin, 60, of Medford, Or., passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 just one day shy of what would have been her 61st birthday.

Josefina was born in San Diego but spent most of her childhood in Van Nuys, California. She loved playing volleyball in her early years and enjoyed being involved with her church. Her bright sense of humor would usually leave you walking away from a conversation either with a laugh or a smile. She met her future husband, Sam Sr., during a wedding rehearsal who eventually moved her up to the Bay Area where they started a family. Even after the move, she always looked forward to long road trips to see her parents and the rest of the family back in Southern California. In the summer of 1992, Josefina decided to take her children on a road trip north on Interstate 5 until she stopped in Medford, Or. in which she fell in love with. It was during that same trip when she phoned her husband to ask if it were ok to relocate the family to Medford. He agreed and in the summer of 1993, the family began its journey up north from South San Francisco.

Josefina was the first in the family to step into the business of Real Estate sales. She felt a great need to help the local Hispanic community realize the dream of homeownership. It was how she treated her clients, who often eventually became friends, that helped spread the news of her service like a wild fire. Over time she encouraged her husband Sam to join her on the same career path and the rest was history.

Josefina was always willing to put others first. She rarely spoke of herself but rather had a sincere interest in learning about others. She was also never too shy to share her love with the Lord, as often evidenced by her continual engagement with members of her community by encouraging those to follow her walk with Christ through prayer meetings or even over a warm meal. She consistently made time to spend time with her children, making sure they were well fed and was relentless in sharing Jesus' light in their everyday lives.

Josefina is survived by her four children; Sam Jr. (Sammy), Bob, Ana, and Joey, Grandchildren; Aiden, Gabriella, and Josie, Mother and Father; Jesus and Concepcion Barragan, Brothers; Ernesto, Ramon, Joaquin and Benjamin, Sisters; Ana Rosa, and Maria Teresa. She also had numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews who will miss Josefina dearly.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Medford Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1900 Greenwood, Medford, OR.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Josefina Martin RVAA Scholarship Fund, 3675 S. Stage Rd., Medford OR 97501
