Don (Donnie) Ray

Don (Donnie) Ray passed away on February 5, 2019 after losing his battle with bladder cancer. His wife, Beryl and friends were at his bedside He has been a resident of Oregon since 1965. Don was 73 years old.

Don is the middle child of Marvin and Wilma Ray. He was born in San Francisco, on March 10, 1945. He is survived by his beloved wife Beryl, sister Sharma, sons DJ, Kevin, Brandon, and daughters Tammy and Michelle, grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Don was well liked and had many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Parry,

Don's family moved to Southern California early in his childhood. He was blessed with terrific athletic abilities excelling in baseball, football, and basketball and of course surfing! In his junior and senior years he was voted MVP in baseball and football. That was the start of his love for sports and much later became the coach for the Little League Baseball Team and the Babe Ruth Baseball Team here in Medford. In 1989 Don took the Babe Ruth Baseball Team all the way and they won the World Series! He also coached for the team that was Oregon State Champs in 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991. His last game was in 2016 playing softball in the Huntsman Senior World Games in St George, Utah where his team received a Gold Medal in their division. He loved sports and learned to love the Green Bay Packers as his wife was from Wisconsin and a devoted Packer Fan.

In 1968 Don graduated from United Medical Laboratories as a Registered Medical Technologist He worked for various Medical Clinics here in Medford as well as Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center and retired from Asante Ashland Community Hospital.

Don had a strong faith in God and knew his faith would carry him through any difficulties. He applied that faith and love of God to those around him. Served his church and was always available when needed. His church family will sorely miss him.

A memorial service will be held at the Ashland Seventh- day Adventist Church at 1:00 on March 10, with a Fellowship Lunch to follow the service at the Community Center next to the church. Address for the church is 1650 Clark Avenue, Ashland.
