Kirk McAllister

September 18th, 1952 - June 17th, 2018

With a heavy heart, the family of Kirk McAllister announces his passing on June 17, 2018 in Ashland, Oregon. He is survived by his two sons, Jeff and Andrew.

Born in Berkeley, California to Eugene (Mac) and Dorothy (Dottie) McAllister, Kirk grew up in Portola Valley, California, and later graduated from Carleton College in Minnesota with the class of 1974. After college, Kirk returned west to the San Francisco Bay Area. He earned a Master's in Economics at San Francisco State, worked for the Federal Reserve, and later completed an MBA at Santa Clara University. He married Claudia Condran on the 29th of August, 1982, who also survives him as a devoted friend.

He and his family moved to Ashland in 1998. Kirk was known in the greater Ashland community as the co-owner and keeper of Horsefeathers of Ashland, and for his unwavering personal, and considerate regard to those who he came across in life. He also volunteered countless hours to the city's school district and youth soccer program. Kirk was an avid hiker and backpacker; a lover of classic and independent films and music; and in his younger days was a pilot, having shared a passion for flying with his parents.

He, his smile, his whimsey, and his guidance will be missed.

A celebration of life will be held at the Ashland Community Center (59 Winburn Way) at 11:00 AM on Saturday, the 15th of September. The ashes of the deceased will be scattered in the California backcountry along with the ashes of final written sentiments. Those interested in the service, writing a final sentiment, or expressing condolences can contact his son, Andrew McAllister, at andrew.t.mcallister@gmail.com.
