Billy Paul Taylor

February 14, 1931 - April 3, 2021

Our dad, Billy Paul Taylor recently turned 90 years old. Because we couldn't have a proper celebration, we asked family and friends to send him what we hoped would be 90 cards. Instead, he received over 150 cards! He was delighted and read every one of them! Billy was born on Valentines Day in 1931 to John and Cora Taylor, in Burnsville, MS, and died April 3, 2021 in Grants Pass, OR due to Covid. He was the 5th of 8 children. Billy came to southern Oregon with his family when his dad took up logging, and stayed when they returned to Mississippi. It was in Ashland where he met our mom, Fern Loreene Phelps while learning to be a horse jockey, and they married on Feb 25, 1950. They lived in Ashland most of their lives while raising their 3 children. Billy's career of driving a logging truck in southern Oregon and northern California was difficult but rewarding. Often nicknamed and called "BP," he worked hard every day he could, rain or shine, sometimes getting up at 3 am in the summer to begin the day. His hobbies included gardening; fishing; building porch swings and picnic tables; and reading, mainly the newspaper and western-themed novels. He loved western tv shows and movies, too. His wife of 68 years, Fern Taylor passed away in 2018. Billy is survived by their 3 children: Bruce (Christine), Tom (JoAnn), Rebecca (Jeff Sais), 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Our dad was a hard worker, had a generous heart, loved his family, and had faith in God. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We will sure miss him, but we are grateful for God's plan of happiness which makes it possible for us to see our parents again. We love you, Dad!

We will celebrate his life with a small family gathering at his graveside. If you'd like to remember Billy, in lieu of flowers, please consider helping children in need by contributing to "Latter-day Saint Charities" in his name.
