Craig Portwood

05/27/1955 -

03/24/2021

Craig S. Portwood, 65, of Shady Cove, passed from this life into eternity on March 24, 2021, at his home.

Craig was the eldest child of Alfred and Nadine Portwood, born on May 27, 1955 and was raised in Baldwin Park, CA. He was remarkable during his early school years, where at age seven, his teachers recognized his above-average intelligence and had him skip the third grade. At around the same time, he was aware of the world around him and accepted Jesus into his heart.

Craig was a proud American, a patriot who loved his country. Upon finishing school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. His assignment during the last stages of the Vietnam War was to serve as a Psychiatric Technician. With soldiers returning from war, many who were trained to kill with their hands and needing help coping with reality, Craig's job was to restrain these soldiers that were undergoing a psychiatric episode, without using a weapon. After his honorable discharge, he continued to work in this field for ten more years.

In the late 1990's, Craig moved to Oregon, spending a little time in Jacksonville before settling in Shady Cove. Craig enjoyed playing guitar, and writing music. His love for God's Kingdom eventually led him to start a radio ministry called Beacon of Truth. It was through this ministry that he met Linda, who would quickly become the love of his life. They spent 18 years together and although Craig had no children of his own, he became a godly guide for Linda's children.

Having received a terminal diagnosis from his physician, Craig faced death with bravery. Faithful to the end, Craig's last words were, "Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!" He is now in the arms of his Father in Heaven.

Craig is survived by his spouse Linda; stepchildren James Kristich and Nicole Kristich; sisters Julie Ogden and Carolyn Holman; brother Douglas Portwood.
