Michael Sergent

January 15, 1956 - September 21, 2018

Michael David Sergent greeted this world 62 years ago on January 15, 1956. Over the next eighteen years he charged headlong through life determined to experience everything it had to offer. He loved skiing, camping, off roading, testing limits, challenging conventions, and most of all, enjoying the company of friends. Two weeks after his graduation from St. Mary's of Medford, a motorcycle accident and resulting brain injury drastically altered his life path but could not dampen his spirit or shake his abiding faith in God. His injuries left him completely dependent on the assistance of others, but instead of becoming bitter, he continued to enjoy the life he had rather than focusing on what he had lost. Michael was insatiably curious about almost everything and happily chatted up strangers on the most esoteric of topics. He shared his mischievous sense of humor and gleeful laughter lavishly, loved generously and forgave unconditionally. Michael slipped his earthly bonds on September 21. He will be greatly missed by his parents, David and Mary Sergent; six siblings and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, but we know he has now spread his wings and is soaring unencumbered. A memorial mass will be held on October 15 at 10 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jacksonville.
