May 28, 1921 -

July 28, 2018

Jillinda "Jill" Jane Martin entered peacefully into eternal life on Saturday morning, July 28, 2018 in Portland, Oregon. She was born May 28, 1921 in Gold Hill, Oregon to parents Claude Worthington Martin and Virginia Lillian Beeman Martin. She lived the first half of her gentle life in the home built by her grandfather Josiah Horton Beeman III. She transferred that house to the Gold Hill Historical Society and it now holds many of the town's historical artifacts, including equipment from the Lucky Bart gold mine that was owned by her grandfather.

Jill grew up in Gold Hill and graduated from Gold Hill High School. She was a student at Oregon State University and pledged Pi Beta Phi Sorority. When WWII broke out in 1941 she left school to support the war effort and worked at Camp White, a large Army base in nearby Medford, Oregon. After the war ended, she went to work for the U.S. Department of the Interior in Medford, and finished her career at the U.S. Forestry Service. After retirement she moved into the house in Portland, Oregon that was the residence of her grandfather when he moved away from Gold Hill.

Jill is survived by her brother Jack Martin, of Lafayette, Louisiana, to whom she remained close throughout her life, although separated by many miles. Jill enjoyed a long, happy life and leaves behind friends and family, including nephews Phil, Joe, and Miles Martin, who will remember her for her kindness, humor, spirituality, and intelligence. Jill's final resting place will be beside her parents at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford, Oregon. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Jill blessed our lives and she is gone but will never be forgotten.
