Doris Lee Templeman

Doris Templeman died at her home in Medford, Oregon on September 2, 2018 at the age of 90. A celebration of her life will be scheduled later at the First United Methodist Church of Medford.

Doris was born on November 2, 1927 in Lakin, Kansas, the fourth of five children to Melvin and Tuzy Lee. She was raised in Garden City, where she was the only one of her siblings to graduate from high school and go on to college. Doris was ambitious and independent minded, qualities which never left her over the decades. After high school she attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, and worked part time at the local Safeway store. There she fell in love with the Assistant Manager Lee Templeman, and they married on June 3, 1946. From there her life became a whirlwind of moves around Oklahoma and Kansas as Safeway transferred Lee from store to store. Besides raising their two children, Doris was actively involved in the Methodist Church and Girl Scouts. In 1963 the family left the Midwest and moved to Medford, Oregon, to be closer to Lee's brother Keith and his family. There Doris and Lee remained active in the Methodist Church and in the 1970's sponsored and fostered the Cambodian family of B and Mlis Hiep, with whom Doris has remained in contact over many years. Doris also found employment with JC Penney, where she eventually became one of the first female executives in that company. Her work with Penneys transferred her to several locations in California before she retired and moved back to Medford with Lee in 1989. Back in the Rogue Valley she took a job at Harry and David's and became a CASA volunteer for over a decade. She was also a faithful blood donor to the American Red Cross, contributing over 10 gallons in her lifetime. Never content to sit still, Doris and Lee square-danced for many years, and after Lee died in 2015, Doris took up line dancing. She also remained active in her neighborhood, transforming it into a community of friends, hosting them at her home and visiting them on her daily walks. Her legacy of conviviality and service to others will not be forgotten. Doris is survived by her son Terry Templeman (Bonnie), daughter Linda DeCarlow (David), grandsons Kharis Templeman (Jessica Tsui), Samuel Templeman (Alicia Brunson), and Benjamin DeCarlow (Erin).

Memorial contributions may be made to CASA of Jackson County, 409 Front Street, Medford OR 97501, or the First United Methodist Church of Medford, 607 West Main Street, Medford OR 97501.
