Lois Rich Smucker

November 6th, 1928 - July 26th, 2019

Described as a tiny package of light and love, Lois "Lo" Rich Smucker, a local Ashland artist, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 90. As whimsical and sophisticated as the art she created, Lo was a favorite among nieces, nephews and grandchildren - she made them all feel special.

A visual artist, with a panel on the Ashland Peace Wall, Lo has donated proceeds from art sales to support disadvantaged girls and others in need. She took great joy in salvaging the materials used in crafting her pieces and in carrying on her father's motto of helping others by donating the proceeds of her work. Lo found her spiritual home at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, her church in Ashland, where she made many dear friends.

Born the daughter of Rufus J. and Lillian (Lantz) Rich in Washington, Illinois, Lo is survived by her husband of 68 years, Leonard Smucker, sons Sterling, (Seattle), Stanford (San Francisco), Stuart (Portland) and Steve (and wife, Kimberly Smucker Cash, Portland). Lo's sister, Mary Blosser (Bluffton, OH) and brother, Ronald Rich (Bluffton) predeceased her.

There will be a celebration of her life at the United Church of Christ on Saturday, September 21st from 2pm to 5pm. Online remembrances may be posted at www.litwillersimonsen.com, click obituaries and search name.
