Ronald Bucher

7/16/56 - 2/18/21

Ron Bucher, a 1974 graduate of Medford Senior High, passed on February 18, 2021 in Corpus Christi, Texas due to complications from Covid-19. Ron was born in Medford, Oregon on July 16th, 1956. He attended Medford schools throughout his youth and while in high school, was a successful athlete lettering in football and baseball. His talent and tenacity as an athlete was a source of pride and fun for his family. He enjoyed several years playing ball with his brother Gerald and growing under his father's coaching through Little League, Babe Ruth and 2nd Team American Legion organizations. After graduation from high school, Ron worked in the valley lumber industry at Boise Cascade Corporation for thirteen years. After the colossal fire that closed the Boise Cascade plant, Ron took advantage of the retraining programs offered and attended the University of Oregon and Rogue Community College to become a respiratory therapist. His long career in health care allowed him several opportunities and a highlight was working with his cousin, Dr. Jack Stump in the emergency room at Rogue Valley Medical Center. He also worked at Three Rivers Medical Center and as a traveling therapist for many years across the Pacific Northwest.

Ron had a gentle and kind-hearted disposition and will be remembered for his sense of humor and his easy-going nature. Ron loved food, family time, and the outdoors. He was married 31 years to Pat Bucher, and they raised a family in Medford and spent early retirement in Grants Pass before moving to Cascade, Idaho in 2019. They were active members of the church communities of Eastwood Baptist, Applegate Christian Fellowship, Cascade Community Church, and River Valley Church where he was baptized in 2019. Ron and Pat loved to adventure cross-country in their RV. He sought out the best seafood and BBQ during their trips and never turned down a game of cornhole or horseshoes. Ron taught his children and grandchildren everything he knew about water and snow skiing, camping, cooking, fishing, hunting, and the Lord. He was a devoted son, brother, and husband and it was evident that his proudest achievements were being a Dad and a Papa.

Ron is survived by his wife Pat Bucher; his parents Geraldine & Ernie Bucher; siblings Tresa Jarel (Bucher), Gerald Bucher, and Steve Bucher; his children, foster- and step-children Leslie Pearson (Bucher), Jared Bucher, Rachel King (Bucher), Jen Christian, and Trina Thurman; his grandchildren Ada Jo King, Jordan Smail, Auggie Collins and Kya Collins, and his beloved dogs Danner and Levi.

His strength, strong will, and eternal optimism got him through multiple medical obstacles including childhood epilepsy, pancreatic cancer, and a stroke. His last breaths were peaceful, and he went with the Lord with his children and wife by his side.

A memorial service and celebration of life will take place on June 12th.
