Doris Laverne (Bailey/Villani) Spurgin passed away October 7, 2018 in Grants Pass. She was born April 26, 1939 in Gary, IN to Ramona and Cecil Bailey. She graduated from San Fernando High School in the class of 1957. She worked in the insurance industry in California and married Carl Villani of Villani Insurance in 1962.

Moving to Oregon in 1968, she worked as a court recorder and operated the C& D Trading Post in Selma with her husband. She also worked for Swaggerty Insurance in Grants Pass and the Siskiyou National Forest before getting her Associates Degrees in Computer Science and Business from Rogue Community College and her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Southern Oregon University. She then worked at Virginia Christensen CPA in Grants Pass and Ted Crocker Financial Services in Cave Junction as a licensed tax preparer. While working for the USFS she was a union steward for the National Federation of Federal Employees.

Doris married her second husband Lloyd "Gene" Spurgin in 1988 and enjoyed many happy years with him before his passing in 2005. She enjoyed spending time with her pets, reading (especially mystery novels), watching figure skating and tennis, going to yard sales, travel, and sharing kind words with her many friends and family members. She was a Pomona at the Deer Creek Grange. She adored children and was a devoted and loving mother.

She leaves a sister, Evelyn Havercroft, of Spokane, Washington; sister-in-law Wilma Spurgin of Selma; two sons, Carl Villani of White City and William Villani of Central Point; stepdaughter Tina Saunders of Fresno, CA; and multiple nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 1 PM at the Deer Creek Cemetery in Selma. A reception will follow at the Deer Creek Grange.
